Relieve Back Pain With a Neck Support Pillow

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people visit their doctors.
It seems everyone is afflicted with some type of back problem at some point.
Some complain that it is from sitting too long at the computer, or at a desk, others say it is from heavy lifting or bending.
Many people do not consider that back pain could be caused by the wrong pillow or mattress.
Whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach, the correct pillow support is essential for a restful sleep without back or neck pain.
One way to tell if your back pain is caused by an actual spinal problem, or by improper neck and back support, is to check how you feel when you get up in the morning.
If your back hurts when getting out of bed, then most likely you need a pillow or mattress with more support for the neck and back.
Everyday, we are bombarded with ads and commercials for relief of backaches, stiff necks, or aching shoulders.
Most of the time we ignore these, but if you are suffering from lower back pain, it may be worth your while to consider trying a neck support pillow.
The most common name for these is the memory foam pillow.
They come in different styles for back, stomach, or side sleepers.
Many people, who have tried the neck support, swear that they have not suffered from neck or back pain since they started using it.
As the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for.
" A decent neck support pillow could save you from chronic back pain caused by a cheap, shapeless pillow.
A few years ago, the neck support pillows were hard to find.
Today, more and more people are finding relief from their aching backs with these pillows.
Many times a doctor will suggest using a neck support pillow at night to see if it helps before prescribing any other treatment.
They are also used for lumbar support to stop slouching in a chair.
Often, this is enough to relieve back discomfort.
They have come down in price, and can be found just about anywhere.
I saw them first at Sharper Image and Breakstone's, but you can order them online, or buy them in most department stores.
So, if you find most of your back pain is when you first get up in the morning, it wouldn't hurt to give the support pillow a try.
You may find years of comfort ahead; no more doctor's visits, acupuncture, or pressure point treatments.
It may be as simple as a new pillow.
