Anecdotes Of Some Alcoholic Drink

An alcoholic drink is a drink made with or from alcohol. There are different kind of this drink. Some are strictly American in origin, while others can be considered imports. It can be fun to learn where a certain drink originated and how it came to be served in American bars and clubs. They all have one thing in common: drinking them can impair your judgment.
HistoryThere have been at least 10,000 years since Alcoholic beverages were found. Beer tankards existed in the Neolithic period and Egyptian pictographs show wine. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament refer to wine as well. Other liquors came along during the Middle Ages.
Main ProcessFermentation is the chemical reaction between yeast and sugars that creates ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide. The alcoholic vapors are collected and then cooled in a condenser to become liquid. Distillation is when a mash of grains or fruit juices is fermented, then boiled. The boiling causes the alcohol to evaporate.
Whiskey SourThe recipe of whiskey sour was written up in an 1862 drinks book by Jerry Thomas. It is considered a member of one of the old families of original cocktails. The whiskey sour was included with recipes for other cocktails such as juleps, slings, sangrias, cobblers and smashes. Most of these recipes have since been lost.
Martini CocktailOne historical version has the martini being created around 1862. At that time, red sweet vermouth and aromatic bitters were added to a specific brand of gin, Old Tom, which had a strong flavor that resembled juniper. Changes were gradually made, with London Dry gin replacing Old Tom, and the aromatic bitters with orange bitters.
Vermouth was next, being replaced with a dry white version. Drink proportions were also adjusted, so that everything was added in equal parts. This concoction became known as the dry martini.
MargaritaAnother alcoholic drink margarita also has several different versions of how it came to be. One version credits Francisco Pancho Morales with serving the first margarita on July 4, 1942, at Tommy's Bar in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Pancho quickly mixed tequila, triple sec and lime juice and set it before the customer. He is said to have invented this drink when a woman requested a Magnolia but could not remember what was in it.
However, there are some who would credit Margarita Samas with inventing the drink when she began mixing triple sec with tequila and lime juice. It was not named the margarita until her husband had Margarita's name etched on glassware, subsequently from which the drink was imbibed from, thus earning its name.
