- 1). Loosen the center bolt holding the flat rear tire on MTD riding mower models. Turn the bolt 1/2 turn counterclockwise with the 3/8-inch wrench.
- 2). Position the automotive jack under the rear axle. Put it under the side of the axle the flat tire is on.
- 3). Jack up the mower 3 to 4 inches.
- 4). Unscrew the center bolt from the rear tire the rest of the way. Pull off the flat tire.
- 5). Lay the tire flat on the ground. Unscrew the air cap and push the tire stem to the side to let any remaining air out.
- 6). Kneel onto the sidewalls of the tire. Push the screwdriver between the tire and the rim. Push out on the screwdriver handle to pry the tire off the rim.
