- 1). Position a ladder underneath the roof where the trusses will be installed. Run a tape measure from one end of the house to the other, working toward the back and draw a small line across the plates on the top of the roof every 16 inches. This will be the truss location.
- 2). Move the ladder to a different location when necessary and continue until you reach the end of the house. Repeat the exact same process for the other side to ensure the gambrel truss is installed perfectly straight throughout. Position a ladder near the front of the roof at each side.
- 3). Pick up the first fully-constructed gambrel truss. Have a helper hold one end and you hold the other. Walk the truss up your respective ladder until you reach the top. Set the truss on top of the roof at the marked location. Center it up so it is even on both sides.
- 4). Place a gusset bracket on the bottom of the truss. Position it so it is attaching the truss to the plate at the top of the roof. Hammer the bracket in place with roofing nails through the provided holes. Hammer in additional roofing nails through the truss and into the plate to attach it to the roof.
- 5). Place a gusset bracket on the other side of the truss and install it in the same manner. Connect the other side of the truss to the plate on the roof. Position the second gambrel truss down 16 inches and install it just like the previous was installed. Continue in the same manner until all of the trusses are installed.
