- 1). Remove the cables from your battery. This will ensure you don't get shocked while working with the stereo's wiring. Remove the red (hot) cable first, followed by the black (negative).
- 2). Remove the dashboard cover using the screwdriver. Refer to your car's manual to find the best way to do this, since each make and model will be different.
- 3). Remove the mounting screws on the old stereo and gently pull it out. You don't want to pull too hard since this might disconnect the wiring from the back.
- 4). Remove the wires from the old stereo one by one. Before removing the wires, pay close attention to where they connect. Write down the color of each wire and how they are attached on paper.
- 5). Install the new system's wiring harness. Refer to the individual system's manual for how to do this.
- 6). Reconnect the wires while referring to the notes you made during the uninstall process.
- 7). Mount the stereo loosely into the vacant spot, and then reconnect your car battery. First replace the black wire, then the red.
- 8). Check to see if the stereo works properly. If it does, tighten the mounting screws on the stereo.
- 9). Replace the dashboard.
