As the ACM Show approaches, I thought I'd make my predictions for the show. If you haven't read my article on Criteria of ACM Awards, check it out so you can see some of what I based my judgement on.
ENTERTAINER
It is close race between Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith. Both had really big years in sales, and tours, with Kenny holding the No. 1 tour honor. I'm going to go with Kenny to win this year.
MALE VOCALIST
This category is probably between Kenny and Alan Jackson, in my opinion. I'm gonna go again with Kenny to win this one as well.
FEMALE VOCALIST
While not a shoe in, I have to go with Martina. Shania had a great year last year with her No. 1 album and highly promoted tour, but I think Martina will take this one again.
NEW ARTIST
I think this is between Dierks and Buddy. I believe Buddy will take it. Both have gold albums. Dierks had the No. 6 song of the year with "What Was I Thinking," but Buddy's album debuted at No. 1, which I think is what clinches it for me.
GROUP
I have to say that I really think the Dixie Chicks should have been nominated here. How long can the blacklisting last for something that happened more than a year ago? That said, I'm going to go with Rascal Flatts once more. They're really hot sales-wise and tour-wise.
DUO
While Montgomery Gentry are really hot and have fantastic live shows, I'm sure that Brooks & Dunn will see another win here. Can you say shoe in for sure?
SONG
This award goes to the songwriter. My money's on "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere."
SINGLE
Pretty much the same songs are nominated as in the "Song" category. Toby Keith's "American Soldier" is a strong candidate here, but I think that "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," which topped the charts for seven weeks will be picking up the hat.
ALBUM
All really good albums, however I'm certain that Toby's Shock 'n Y'all will the the winner here.
VIDEO
This one is the only one that is voted on by Associate ACM Members as well as the Full ACM Members. I think the Man in Black will pull out one more win here for the touching "Hurt."
Watch the ACM Show on CBS, Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 8:00 pm ET/PT. and find out how well I did. I'll be there in Las Vegas watching the show live.
