- 1). Remove all things from the bedroom that are not used often. Place the items in storage bins and keep elsewhere. One of the most important things about having a zen room is eliminating any and all clutter, which can create stressful feelings instead of peaceful ones.
- 2). Paint the walls a simple solid color using interior paint. You can choose to use earth tones such as sand or sage, or go for a bolder look with rich jewel tones of blue, red or purple. Choose whatever color makes you find the most relaxing.
- 3). Hang a rectangular mirror on one of the newly painted walls to add a sense of balance to the room.
- 4). Place a few scented candles around the room for when you are relaxing but not sleeping. Examples of relaxing candle scents are lavendar, jasmine, rose, sandalwood or vanilla.
- 5). Throw a solid-colored covering over your bed, in a tone that matches the paint color. Busy designs and loud patterns can convey a chaotic feeling and make the room less relaxing.
- 6). Remove all clutter from your night side table except for your clock and relaxing decor piece, such a bamboo houseplant or decorative peaceful statue of your choice.
