- 1). Read the "Frequently Asked Questions" page in the SNAP section of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) website (see Resources). This page gives thorough and broad-based information about the program, including how eligibility is determined and where to apply for benefits. It also describes what kind of food can be bought in the program and where. Information about program fraud is also included.
- 2). Read the "Food Stamp Facts" Web page on the Social Security Administration's Social Security Online website (see Resources). This page includes much of the same information as the frequently asked questions page on the USDA site, but focuses more on eligibility requirements.
- 3). Contact your local SNAP office. To find a location, click on your state on the map on the "Where Is My Local Office?" page of the SNAP section of the USDA website (see Resources). You will be given a list of SNAP outreach locations in your state, with an address and phone number for each location.
- 4). On your state's Web page from Step 3, click on an "office nearest you" link. This will redirect you to the search function on your state's SNAP website and provide you with a list of addresses or offer you the opportunity to enter your ZIP code for the office nearest you. Once you have located an office, visit or call the location to get the information you wish to find.
