- 1). Visit www.itunes.com, and click to download the software. The website will then determine the best version of the software for your system. On the left side of the next screen, choose to download, and enter your email address for updates, if you wish. Download the software to your desktop for easy access.
- 2). Double-click on the software you've downloaded, and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed through the install. While Apple recommends that you submit your email address to receive software updates, this is not necessary to get the software. Reboot your computer when the installer is complete.
- 3). Launch iTunes by double-clicking on the software.
- 4). Attach the iTouch wire to your computer. There are two ends: a long connector, and a shorter, thicker one. Attach the longer one to the bottom of your iTouch; it will click in place. Then, locate the USB port on your computer; this will be a rectangular port on the side or back of the unit. Insert the plug into this port. Your computer and, then, iTunes will recognize your iTouch.
- 5). Provide the information requested by iTunes. The software will likely ask you to name your iTouch, and also to "register" the device with your computer. Also, it will ask you if you want to sync the iTouch with your computer each time you connect it. This will essentially check to see if you have any new music or videos in your iTunes; if so, it will automatically transfer them to your iTouch upon connection.
- 6). Click on the Apple Store, and establish an account if you wish to download music or videos from iTunes. Keep in mind that there are charges for this.
