- Ribbon is a popular material for celebrations and formal affairs. In fact, there are so many ribbon wedding ideas available at craft stores and in magazines that you can find inspiration for any style. From apple-patterned ribbon in the decorations to zebra-striped ribbon edging the gowns, there are many ways to incorporate ribbons into every part of the wedding. Mix different types of ribbon, such as silk, velvet, plastic, paper or wire-edged, to help create your favorite ideas.
- Decorative ribbons are an essential part of most floral displays, especially for a ribbon wedding. Tie a ribbon in a bow around a flower bouquet or a flower-filled vase. For a different approach, loop long pieces of wire-edged ribbon into petal shapes to use as bouquet filler. Slide the ribbon loops into a simple bouquet to help dress up the arrangement.
Other ribbon wedding ideas using flowers include fancy pew and wall bows. Tie white tulle and white decorative ribbon into large bows, secure a white rosebud in the center of each bow and secure a bow at the end of each pew or row of chairs. Create giant bows with the tulle, ribbon and rosebud to hang along walls and/or poles. - Incorporating decorative ribbons into your wardrobe is a common wedding style practice. Any female member of the wedding party can have her dress or shoes trimmed with decorative ribbon. She can also wear a ribbon or ribbon accessory in her hair. Give a plain tulle veil a fancy look by trimming the bottom and sides with pearl-edged, cream, decorative ribbon. Make plain black bridesmaid dresses look elegant with a pink decorative ribbon rose around the neckline and matching ribbon ruffles around the hemline.
Hem and loop a piece of decorative ribbon into a rose shape to create a boutonnière for each male member of the ribbon wedding party. Add a few pieces of thin green ribbon and use a pearl-tipped pin to secure. Use the same process with a larger ribbon to create corsages for each female member of the wedding party. - Decorations are another wedding category that often uses ribbon. If you're throwing a ribbon wedding, try to incorporate ribbons into every kind of decoration. Use thick pieces of cream and silver decorative ribbon loosely twisted with white tulle to create garlands you can string along the walls. If you are using rectangular tables, align thick decorative pieces of ribbon along the centers of each table and place centerpieces on the ribbon.
Use small curls of decorative ribbon to stuff wedding favor containers, and tie each container with an elaborate, four-loop ribbon bow. If you are using circular tables, sprinkle small pieces of curled ribbon across the middles of tables to add some depth to centerpiece decorations.
Tie wide ribbon into a large bow around the back of each chair at the reception. Hang swags of ribbon from the ceiling to create a canopy decoration for the wedding ceremony and/or reception.
