- 1). Arrange four 24-inch by 36-inch canvas panel frames in a horizontal row so the height is 36 inches and the width is 96 inches. Canvas panel frames are available at most craft stores and online. A width of 96 inches extends 10 inches on each side of the king size mattress. Add or remove a panel if you prefer a headboard with a different width. Place the panels face down.
- 2). Join the panels together with strips of 3-inch duct tape along the common edges. Center a strip of duct tape over the wood strips and fold the excess over the sides of the wood strips. Run the tape along the entire length of the adjacent sides of the frames. Framed canvas panels have wood frames, so you can also join the panels together with screws.
- 3). Paint the outside edges of the headboard frame with copper-colored or silver metallic acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry for at least one hour. Place the headboard face up on the floor.
- 4). Squirt one-part epoxy adhesive along the four back edges of one 12-inch square copper or tin tile. Place the tile in the top left corner of the headboard canvas. The top edge of the tile should be flush with the top edge of the canvas. The left side edge of the tile should be flush with the left side edge of the canvas. Press the tile in place for one minute.
- 5). Follow the process described in Step 4 to glue a row of eight tiles along the top of the headboard canvas. The top edges of each tile should be flush with the top edge of the canvas; the bottom edges should line up evenly, and the left side edges should touch the previous tile.
- 6). Follow the same procedure to add another row of eight tiles beneath the first row. The left and right edges of the second-row tiles should line up with the left and right edges of the tiles on the first row. The top edge of the second-row tiles should touch the bottom edge of the first-row tiles.
- 7). Add another row of eight tiles beneath the second row, following the same procedure as you did when adding the second row of tiles. Wait 24 hours before moving the headboard to allow the adhesive to dry.
- 8). Locate two wall studs in the wall behind the king-size bed. Attach a wall hanger to the studs equal to the desired height of the headboard. Place the top edge of the headboard three feet from the top of the mattress if you’d like the headboard to appear attached to the bed. Attach the second section of the wall hangers to the corresponding top wooden edge of the headboard. Hang the headboard on the wall.
