How to Disconnect an Aftermarket Car Alarm for a 1997 Ford Explorer

    Neutralize the Alarm

    • 1). Check under the dash for the alarm button or toggle switch with the vehicle turned off. (The toggle switch is bright red or black.) Turn the ignition on and press the button or toggle until you hear the alarm sound one time. You should see a corresponding LED light come up on the dash.

    • 2). Press the button to put the alarm system into valet mode. The alarm will only sound when there is a keyless entry attempt that fails.

    • 3). Reset the alarm by inserting the key into the driver's door lock, turn it to the left and then to the right.

    Disable the Alarm

    • 1). Locate the alarm wiring system in the driver's kick panel. The disarm wire is dark purple and light green.

    • 2). Use wire splicers to splice another wire of equal gauge into the disarm wire.

    • 3). Ground the wire to the chassis. The alarm will be completely disabled at this point.
