How to Clean a Gummed Up Carburetor on a Weedeater

    • 1). Pull the fuel line off of the carburetor and drain it into a container. Unscrew the carburetor from the weedeater and disconnect any other fittings.

    • 2). Drain any fuel left in the carburetor into a container and lay the carburetor on a clean work surface. Disassemble the carburetor, unscrewing the bolts that connect the halves of the carburetor housing together. Remove the fuel jets, jet needle, float, valve needle from the carburetor. Set these in a small container filled with carburetor cleaner to soak.

    • 3). Clean both halves of the carburetor with carburetor cleaning spray. Apply the spray liberally into the passageways cut into the carburetor. Use a toothbrush to scrub away any buildup and rinse again with the carburetor cleaning spray.

    • 4). Blow dry the carburetor with compressed air, directing the air into the passageways to blow out any remaining blockages.

    • 5). Remove the fuel jets, jet needle, float, valve needle from their container and blow dry them with compressed air. Use a small wire to clear any remaining buildup within the jets.

    • 6). Inspect the condition of the carburetor gaskets and jets. The jets can be unscrewed using a small screwdriver. Look for tears in the gaskets and damaged jets. If the gaskets or jets have been damaged, obtain a repair kit to replace these parts.

    • 7). Reassemble the carburetor and install it onto your weedeater. Reconnect the fuel line and fill the weedeater with fresh gasoline.
