- 1). Purchase a new car stereo that is compatible with your model and year Volvo. A compatible system will have a wiring harness adapter and mount for the new stereo. Make sure to speak to someone at the store where you are purchasing the stereo to verify that it is compatible.
- 2). Disconnect the black (negative) wire from the car's battery.
- 3). Locate the screws that hold the center console in place and remove them. These may be on the side of the console or underneath it.
- 4). Remove the center console and place it aside.
- 5). Pull out the old stereo and disconnect the wiring harness and antenna wire from the back of the unit.
- 6). Place the stereo mount into the dash and secure it using the clips. If the stereo you purchase fits flush in the opening, then skip this step.
- 7). Connect the new stereo to the wiring harness through the wiring harness adapter. Also connect the antenna wire to the back of the new stereo.
- 8). Place the stereo back into the dash.
- 9). Reconnect the car's power by connecting the black (negative) wire to the battery.

Turn on the radio to make sure that the entire system is working properly. - 11
Replace any screws and interior pieces that you had removed in previous steps.
