- Place the four band members in poses imitating live performance. The drummer should be behind the drum set for this type of photograph, with the bass player and guitar player standing at the front of the stage, one left and one right. Have the singer stand slightly to one side, allowing the drummer to be clearly in the shot. For this type of photograph, the drum set should be a little closer to the front of the stage than it would be for a real concert, which will help bring the members of the band closer together for the shot.
- Posing with instruments is good for a four-piece band. This is similar to the live pose, except the band doesn't pretend to be playing. A traditional set up features the lead singer standing in the center of the pose, holding a microphone. The bass player and guitar player may kneel, holding their instruments and the drummer, holding drum sticks can stand behind the guitar or bass player with his arms crossed.
- Outdoor poses can be especially useful, particularly if the poses will be used for a CD cover. Many different types of poses can be staged outdoors. The band can pose by a freight train, with two members squatting on top of the train and two standing on the ground in front of the train. You could also pose all four members on top of the train. Other poses might include the members at a beach, dressed in full concert gear and wading into the water with the hands of their fans reaching for them through the waves.
- Group poses without instruments can make interesting material for photography. The band standing side by side with their arms draped over each other's shoulders, each member dressed in full stage costume, is one way to do this. If fans of the band are more used to seeing the band in stage clothes, consider dressing in street clothes instead. Another group idea is to have band members stand with the rhythm section (drums and bass) in the back, standing up, and the lead singer and guitarist kneeling in front.
