Workplace Safety Topics for Presentation

    • There are countless workplace safety topics you can choose from.workplace portrait image by DXfoto.com from Fotolia.com

Safety presentations for employees give them the facts about workplace safety and ensure they know how to act appropriately when accidents occur and how to prevent them. However, with such an extensive list of safety topics, you should tailor the information to your specific workplace (office employees may not need to know about construction site hazards). Don't overload employees with information. If the presentation is long, break it up into seminars and give them at different times.

    Hazard Analysis

    • Before giving a presentation on workplace safety, you should know what safety topics to cover. A hazard analysis process focuses on identifying hazards that may occur during various job tasks. It examines how the worker, his tools and environment all work in unison to complete tasks. Knowing the potential for harm in your workplace will help you shape your presentation for your employees.

    Preparation

    • Topics to consider for your workplace safety presentation include chemicals, electrical and heat burns, operating machinery, falls, noise, weather and human error or strain. Your employees may find some hazard topics obvious, but don't overlook them as part of your presentation. Some hazards will need less explanation than others. Always provide the latest information on workplace hazards and safety. When choosing topics for your meeting, focus on ones that hold the most relevance, such as safety issues that occurred recently at your workplace.

    Presenting

    • When you discuss a topic during a meeting, give details and examples of scenarios to help explain what each topic means so employees will gain a greater grasp of the material. Use interactive situations and encourage your employees to become involved in the discussion. Fielding questions from employees during prevention discussions allows them to clarify any confusion and better understand how to avoid workplace accidents. When discussing a safety topic, such as harassment or abuse, keep control of the conversation and try not to let your employees lead the discussion to other topics.

    Prevention

    • Minimize accidents in the workplace by teaching employees how to prevent them. Teach employees about workplace safety policies and guidelines that promote safe practices and reduce or eliminate injuries and illnesses. Topics may include anything from how to use hazardous materials, to proper posture when sitting at a workstation, to the dangers posed to those with peanut allergies. Many workplace accidents occur due to ignorance. Part of your presentation should include written handouts that employees can take with them as references.
