- 1). Measure one foot down from the top of the PVC pipe and drill two holes, one on each side of the pipe.
- 2). Insert the two inch diameter PVC pipe into the holes and slide across, making both sides of the pipe even. Set aside.
- 3). Cut the two legs off of a pair of pantyhose.
- 4). Fill each leg with thistle seed and tie the top securely with a knot. Set aside.
- 5). Push the long PVC pole two feet into the ground. If you don't have upper body strength, dig a hole using post hole diggers and fill in around the pipe.
- 6). Hang thistle-filled socks on each side of the pipe, slipping the small pipe into the knots and pulling the knots tight to hold the socks in place. Place the PVC cap on top of the feeder to keep the birds from falling in the pipe.
