- 1). Clean the canvas canopy, using a water hose and a coarse brush. Don't use soap, or the canvas will absorb it, leading to difficulties with paint adhesion. Wait approximately six hours for the canopy to dry.
- 2). Protect portions of the canvas canopy you do not want painted by covering them with painter's tape. Cover the surface beneath the canopy with drop cloths.
- 3). Pour two gallons of acrylic paint into a plastic 5-gallon bucket. Mix three oz. ordinary tap water with the paint. Stir the diluted paint for five full minutes.
- 4). Apply two light coats of the diluted paint to the canvas canopy, using a paintbrush manufactured for use with latex coatings. Wait an hour between each coat.
- 5). Wait a minimum of six hours for the acrylic paint to cure. Coat the finished canvas canopy with spray water sealant. Maintain an 8-inch distance between the canopy and the spray nozzle, as you apply.
