Easy to Make Decorating Ideas

Decorating your home is the ultimate way to express yourself and your personality. If you aren't particularly creative or experienced with decorating, start by choosing some easy decorating ideas. These inexpensive ideas also are great if you are on a budget. Also, if you have children, they probably will enjoy helping you create things for your home.

Switch Plates

Add some style to the switch plates surrounding your light switches. You can redecorate them using wallpaper borders, a pencil, masking tape and scissors. Measure the amount of wallpaper that you need and cut out the area for the switch. You can coordinate all of your switch plates to be the same, or create custom ones to match the décor in each room.

Take a rectangular shaped art canvas, some paint and create your own wall art. Paint the canvas in a bold color, such as bright orange or royal blue. Use acrylic paint on the canvas. This garners the best bold results. Other types of paint, such as watercolor, will not show up well on the canvas. Once the paint dries, it's ready to hang. Also, a fun look is to create a few different ones and hang them symmetrically. This is a decorating project that is easy to do and has a strong impact on your home.

Take pictures from your favorite books and magazines and put them in brightly colored frames. If you have old frames and some paint handy, go ahead and paint the frames yourself. A fun idea is to frame vintage pictures found in old magazines. Even old advertisements look great framed on your walls. You can hang them in groups of three or just hang the pictures all over your walls.

Revamp the look of your bookcase in just a few hours with some paint. Remove all of your books from the bookshelf first. Paint the back of the bookshelf in a bright, shocking color. Some good ideas are Kelly green or teal. It gives just a pop of color and adds visual interest to your bookcase, even with your books on it. Arrange the books in such a way that the bright color stands out.
