Lets start with the phone. A lot of people believe that because you're on the phone people won't be able to tell if you're nervous or not. This is just not the case.
People can always tell if you're nervous even if they can't see your face or body language. So how do you exude confidence over the phone with a prospect?
One way is through speaking slowly. People tend to speed up their speech when they are nervous so by speaking a little bit more slowly you will come off as more polished and confident.
Another way is by thinking before you speak. Um's and Uh's and nervous laughter do not sound like a confident person. If you don't know the answer to a question don't stress out. Let them know you're not sure about the answer but you'll find out and get back with them.
Also, even though they can't see you it's always a good idea to sit up straight in your chair and smile. You might feel silly but this will make a huge difference in the way that you sound over the phone.
