How to Search for Names in the WW II Memorial Registry

    • 1). Locate the computer terminal at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Park rangers are on duty to assist visitors from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. You can also log on to the National World War II Memorial Registry.

    • 2). Click the "Search the Registry" link at the top left of the ABMC's registry. Enter the last name, first name and state or territory of residence for the person you are looking for in the fields marked "Last Name" and "First Name." Select a state or territory from the drop-down list that appears when you click on the arrows next to the field marked "State/Territory." Click the "Submit" button below the "State/Territory" field at the bottom left of the screen. The registry contains names of Americans buried in overseas military cemeteries, memorialized on the American Battle Monuments Commission's (ABMC) "Tablets of the Missing," listed on War and Navy departments' "Killed in Service" rosters and honored by others who enrolled them into the ABMC's Registry of Remembrances.

    • 3). Study the list of names that appear on the resultant screen and click on the colored, hyperlinked name on the left side of the screen to view the registry's information about that person, including description of service.

    • 4). Perform an advanced search if your first search did not return the result you wanted by clicking "advanced search" at the bottom right of the main search page. Enter the first and last name of the person you are looking for as well as the name of his or her hometown and select one of the four available databases and the person's state or territory. Click "submit" and repeat step 3.
