- Henry Ford, Ransom Olds and Walter Chrysler are among the automotive pioneers that established early production facilities in Detroit. A visit to the birthplace of the American automotive industry is enhanced with a tour of an auto assembly plant. Several plants, including Henry Ford's original Model T assembly plant and two working facilities, in Michigan offer tours conducted by museums and chambers of commerce.
- Ford Motor Company presents tours of the Rouge Assembly Plant in conjunction with the Henry Ford Museum. Buses leave every half hour from the Henry Ford Museum. The sightseeing tour includes historic automotive landmarks and culminates in a walk across the observation deck at the Ford Rouge Assembly Plant. Depending on production schedule, the assembly of trucks may or may not occur at the time of visit.

hfmgv.org/rouge - The Flint Area Convention & Visitors Bureau hosts tours of the General Motors Truck Assembly Plant facilities. Visitors witness the product of GM's one-ton pickup trucks. Tours begin at 9 a.m. on weekdays. Tours are not given during the first two weeks in July, when the facility shuts down for production change over.

In addition to the Model T, models A, B, J, N, R and S were also produced at the plant. Visitors can witness the facility in its original condition, visit the Experimental Room where the Model T was developed and examine the collection of cars.
