Definition: Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) is the process of identifying and moving work functions from a law firm or legal department to another firm. LPO is a form of Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), specific to the legal functions performed in a legal firm or in a corporate legal department. While it is generally agreed that a range of legal functions can be outsourced, there is disagreement between experts over which tasks can and should be performed only by a lawyer and which tasks can be performed by non-lawyers.
