SEO firms have to change their strategy and tactics as Google fortifies its search results every year. New products from Google, mobile internet and social media are forever changing the way SEO approaches client websites. Year 2010 and early 2011 gave Google some scandals only SEOs could have brought about such as link schemes, feedback manipulation for better search rankings and probably many more yet to be unearthed. But these are black hat SEO tactics and there are genuine ways to garner better search rankings. Keeping up with Googles pace alone is a daunting task and a few features that can draft SEO success and mistakes in 2011 are:
Social Networking: Social media is gaining popularity and is also going to gain immense power to increase search rankings. Social networking and social media marketing are two points that an SEO company cant afford to ignore. Social media optimization is gaining relevance and can be a powerful tool as the year unfolds.
Quality or Quantity: Quality is the way to go. Though content farms can outrank your website it is important to note that Google is likely to penalize such sites sooner or later. Quality websites will get their recognition provided users find the information valuable. Content is king but it does not ensure ample web traffic. Getting an effective content to link ratio can also have the desired impact on search rankings.
Quality links: Links employing the social media sites or optimizing blogs are ideal ways to generate links that improve search rankings. Paying attention to internal pages through quality links can upgrade the relevance of the main domain. Building rich anchor text links can also improve search ranking for specific keywords. Too many rich anchor text links can have the reverse effect. Building relevant links slowly and steadily will help derive the expected results while quick link building schemes can provide short term results.
Title Tags and Meta Tags: The title tags and meta description tags are not to be taken for granted. Simple tactics can help improvise search rankings. Unique title tags, including website name in title tag only on relevant pages instead of all pages, crisp meta description tags devoid of keyword stuffing are some ways to enhance the title tag and meta descriptions. Having a generic description tag for all pages is avoidable, tailored descriptions for each page can increase relevance of such pages.
Time and Patience: SEO firms and SEO clients have to abide by the fact that the process cannot provide instant results. The process requires time and effort to achieve desired search rankings. Another important point is that SEO is a continuous process employing various web tools and strategies and cannot be a onetime process. Search engine marketing and PPC services also require continuous improvement strategies to attract online revenues.
