This review pertains to a trip with Grand Circle Cruise Lines in July 2014 aboard the MS River Concerto. It is marketed as Old World Prague and the Blue Danube.
The M/S River Concerto is equipped to serve about 140 passengers plus crew. The ship features a single dining room, bar, lounge, small library and spa (with hot tub, exercise equipment and massage room). There is an elevator for travelers who have problems with steps.
Without exception, the ship was clean and well-appointed for our trip.
Our itinerary began in Budapest, where we were met at the airport by Grand Circle representatives. About an hour passed between arrival in the terminal and departure for the ship. This length of time was necessary because a full accounting of all passengers had to be made prior to our airport departure, and several did not arrive on schedule.
The designated waiting area had few seats, and some passengers with physical challenges resorted to sitting on the floor. It would have been better to open the bus for seating or to make a second trip for the late arrivals.
Once at the ship, the crew extended lunch service because of our later arrival. The ship initially docked east of the city center. But on the first night, a short repositioning cruise took us to a docking point in the middle of the city. The 90-minute cruise included spectacular nighttime views of the city's most prominent buildings, along with a running commentary over the loudspeaker about the sites the ship was passing.
