- 1). Drive your lawnmower until you reach a level surface (preferably a cement or stone surface). Leave the mower in gear, shut it off from the ignition, apply the parking breaks, and detach the cord from the sparkplug for extra safety.
- 2). Place one piece of wood underneath the lawnmower to the front and one piece to the rear so that the damaged deck can be lowered for removal and the replacement deck can have a place to rest for easier attachment.
- 3). Remove attachments that are in your way along with the blade drive belt from the front pulley. Locate and remove with your needle-nose pliers all cotter or guide pins (could have two or four in the rear and two or four in the front but varies according to brand of lawnmower) that connect the deck to the frame of the mower. Raise the deck to the highest position and remove the old deck.
- 4). Place the new lawnmower deck underneath the mower and allow it to rest on the blocks of wood. Use your 15mm wrench to move the idle pulley if needed so that your drive belt will go on with ease.
- 5). Lift the front of the deck up until it aligns with the holes in the front of the frame. Reinsert cotter or guide pins along with the carter keys. Repeat this step to attach the rear of the deck to the rear of the riding lawnmower.
