- 1). Visit the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (cic.gc.ca). Find and print form IMM 1249, "Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay or Remain in Canada."
- 2). Determine if you are eligible. You may only obtain an extension for up to four cumulative years. You must apply at least 30 days before your permit expires.
- 3). Read the instructions carefully and gather the required documents. The documents include bank statements, proof of status in Canada, proof of employment in Canada and a letter explaining how you plan to provide for yourself during your stay.
- 4). Fill the application out completely in black ink; you may also apply electronically. Pay the fee online and print out a receipt of payment. Mail the application, receipt of payment and documents to CPC Vegreville, Work Permit, 6212-55th Avenue -- Unit 202, Vegreville, AB T9C 1X6.
