Cover your wall with fabrics. Hanging a Persian rug or ornamental carpet disguises a stone wall and also makes for an interesting focal point. Less pricey options include hanging a blanket, bedspread or throw featuring patterns or designs that catch your eye. Or, you can create your own art: Take a large piece of canvas, or even an inexpensive white bed sheet, paint your own picture or design on it, frame it and hang it on the wall. Don't forget curtains; they're not just for windows. Find curtains in a color and style that fits with your décor and hang them along the length of the wall.

Use art to disguise the wall. This option may cover only part of the wall, but it warms up the cold, industrial look of the stone and also very effectively draws attention away from it. A fun and unique piece of art you can make yourself is a faux window to hang on the wall. Or, put up unconventional pieces such as framed leaves, driftwood or metal pieces such as bronze, silver, steel or copper sculptures. Turn the wall into a gallery and display photographs, decorative tiles, paintings, or posters, Or showcase your collections: coins, dolls, clocks, stamps, signed sports gear or shells.

Put up bead board or wallpaper. Wallpaper cannot be used on every stone wall; some are too rough and uneven. But for smooth stone walls, covering them with wallpaper is inexpensive and simple. To make the job even easier, use self-adhesive wallpaper, all ready to be pasted onto walls. Put up a fun print or a bold color for visual interest. Bead board, which is pressed and shaped particle board, is another option. With the use of the right drills and screws, it can be used on any stone wall. It is available at any home improvement store and usually glued or nailed in place.
