Mindless eating is a term coined by food and consumer researcher Brian Wansink to describe eating while your mind is distracted by something else.Â
In his landmark book Mindless Eating; Why We Eat More Than We Think, Wansink describes numerous conditions which contribute to distracted eating, including whether we're watching television, driving, the dishes we eat from, or simply whether foods are in plain view.
Wansink argues that you can make the tendency to mindlessly eat work for you, by leaving healthy anti-aging foods like fruits and vegetables clearly visible on your counter or desk at work, while concealing less nutritious and highly-processed snack foods wrapped in foil out of sight in the back of your cupboard or fridge.
