NOTE: If this seems too complicated, simply click the link at the bottom of the article to be taken to a simple solution to softmodding your Wii. It requires downloading a piece of software onto an SD card, but it is much easier and you don't have to risk bricking your Wii.
Step 0 - Preparation
Download ---> The "Hack My Wii" Package
* Download and unzip the package "Hack My Wii" on your computer.
* Copy the contents of the "copy to SD root" to the root of your SD card. [i.e. directly when you open the SD card.]
* If your Wii is version 4.1 or lower, rename the folder "private for Wii 4.1 and lower" to "private".
* If your Wii is version 4.2 rename the folder "private for Wii 4.2" to "private".
Step 1 - Bannerbomb Exploit
Step 1A - Bannerbomb for Wii 4.1 and lower
* Power on your Wii WITHOUT the SD card inside.
* Go into Wii Options. (Caution, do not click on the SD card icon next door!)
* Then in Data Management.
* Go in Channels.
* Then into SD Card.
* Insert the SD card.
* A popup opens, choose "yes".
* Hackmii Installer is launched, go to Step 2 - Hackmii Installer.
Step 1B - Bannerbomb for Wii 4.2
* Power on your Wii WITHOUT the SD card inside.
* Go to the SD Card Menu.
* Insert your SD card.
* A popup opens, choose "yes".
* Hackmii Installer is launched, go to Step 2 - Hackmii Installer.
Step 2 - Hackmii Installer
* Hackmii installer is launched, wait for about 20 seconds then Press (1) to continue.
* Press (A) to continue.
* Install Homebrew Channel.
* Install bootmii as boot2 and IOS [boot2 may not be available].
* Return to the main menu.
* Exit Hackmii Installer.
* If installed as boot2, go to Step 2.2 - Create a NAND Backup.
* If installed only as IOS, go to Step 3 - Pimp My Wii.
Step 2.2 - Create a NAND Backup
* Hold the Power button for 5 seconds to power off your Wii.
* With the SD Card inserted, power on your Wii.
* Bootmii is loaded. [if not then you only installed as IOS]
* Press the Power button on the front of your Wii 3 times to get to the last option.[You can also navigate with a gc controller.]
* Press the reset button.
* Press reset to choose the first option.
* Press reset to start the backup process.
* Wait for the backup and verify to finish.
* [Up to 80 bad blocks are no problem.]
* Backup the Bootmii folder, NAND.bin, & keys.bin elsewhere.
* Go to Step 3 - Pimp My Wii.
Step 3 - Pimp My Wii
Step 3A - Online - Full - Pass the Test and Fix Problems. Let Pimp My Wii scan your Wii for outdated and/or missing Wii system files
* Load Pimp My Wii from the Homebrew Channel.
* Select Hack your Wii / Minimal Installation.
* Pimp My Wii will scan your IOS for suitable IOS for the install.
* You only need to read the prompt and press the (A) button on your Wii remote.
* Do not change any of the patching options, let Pimp My Wii choose them for you.
* Leave all settings at default. All you have to do is press the (A) button on your Wii remote.
* Once Minimal is done, Exit Pimp My Wii.
* Load Pimp My Wii again from Homebrew Channel.
* This time select, Pass the Test and Fix Problems.
* Install everything as suggested.
* Exit Pimp My Wii.
* If Inverted Homebrew Channel go to Step 3A.2 - Fix Inverted Homebrew Channel
* If not inverted Exit Pimp My Wii and Go to Step 4 - Priiloader.
Step 3A.2 - Fix Inverted HBC
* Load Hackmii Installer from Homebrew Channel.
* Wait for about 20 seconds then Press (1) to continue.
* Press (A) to continue.
* Install Homebrew Channel.
* Exit Hackmii Installer and Go to Step 4 - Priiloader.
Step 3B - Offline - Minimal - only install necessary files - 131 MB download required
Download ---> Pimp My Wii Offline
Files
* Place all files to the root of your SD Card.
* Load Pimp My Wii from the Homebrew Channel.
* Select Hack your Wii / Minimal Installation.
* Pimp My Wii will scan your IOS for suitable IOS for the install.
* You only need to read the prompt and press the (A) button on your Wii remote.
* Do not change any of the patching options, let Pimp My Wii choose them for you.
* Leave all settings at default. All you have to do is press the (A) button on your Wii remote.
* Once Minimal is done, Exit Pimp My Wii.
* Load Pimp My Wii again from Homebrew Channel.
* This time select Manual Install.
* Select YES to install the following IOS with default patching options.
o IOS34
o IOS38
o IOS53
o IOS55
o IOS56
o IOS57
o IOS58
o IOS60
o IOS70
o IOS80
o IOS202
o IOS224
o IOS249
o IOS250
o Shopping Channel
o System Menu 4.1 [if following 4.1 and lower]
* Exit Pimp My Wii.
* If Inverted Homebrew Channel go to Step 3B.2 - Fix Inverted Homebrew Channel.
* If not inverted Go to Step 4 - Priiloader.
Step 3B.2 - Fix Inverted HBC
* Load Hackmii Installer from Homebrew Channel.
* Wait for about 20 seconds then Press (1) to continue.
* Press (A) to continue.
* Install Homebrew Channel.
* Exit Hackmii Installer and Go to Step 4 - Priiloader.
Step 4 - Priiloader
* Load priiloader from Homebrew Channel.
* Hold the (B) and press (+) to start the installation.
* After finished installing, press the power button and hold the reset button on the front of your Wii.
* Go to Settings.
* Ensure Autoboot: and Return to: are set to System Menu.
* Change the Background Color to Black.
* Save settings.
* Press (B) and go to System Menu Hacks.
* Enable desired hacks. At minimum i suggest enable Block Disc Updates, Move Disc Channel, and Block Online Updates.
* Save Settings.
* Press (B) and select Homebrew Channel.
* Go to Step 5 - cIOS and Custom Channels.
If you want to access priiloader in the future, you can access priiloader using these methods:
* Hold reset while Wii is powered on.
* Change autoboot to priiloader.
Step 5 - cIOS and Custom Channels
* Load YAWMM from Homebrew Channel.
* Choose IOS36 for install, Press (A).
* Press (A) to open from SD slot.
* Continually Press (+) to select all wads, 8 of them.
* Press (A) to continue.
* Press (A) to install.
* When finished press (Home) to exit.
* Go to Step 6 - SD Card Clean Up.
Step 6 - SD Card Clean Up

* Keep the "apps" folder, this is necessary to load applications from Homebrew Channel.
* Keep the "Bootmii" folder, this is necessary to load bootmii.
* Keep the "NeoGamma" folder, this is necessary to load some games.
* Keep the "WiiFlow" folder, this is necessary to load WiiFlow.
* From within the apps folder you can remove Hackmii Installer, Pimp My Wii, Priiloader and YAWMM folders.
* You can safely remove all other folders and files downloaded in the "Hack My Wii" and the "pimp my wii offline files' packages from the
SD Card root keeping only the "apps" folder, the "bootmii" folder, the "fceugx" folder, the "neogamma" folder, the "snes9xgx" folder, and
the "wiiflow" folder.
