- 1). Lay your boxes on top of each other in the order and placement you want. A traditional five-tier wedding cake consists of circular tiers stacked evenly on top of each other, although you could make some tiers off center if you wish.
- 2). Trace around the outside of each tier on the lid of the one below it. You do not want your hole to be larger than the box sitting on top of it.
- 3). Cut an inch inside each traced circle. This will ensure that no cutouts show under the box on top. Every box lid should have a circle cut from it except the very top box. Cut a large slit in the top box, wide enough for cards to slip through.
- 4). Cut a circle from the bottom of each box, except the bottom box. Leave a 1-inch rim around the bottom so you have a way to attach the boxes to each other. The bottom of the bottom layer should remain intact.
- 5). Wrap each box and lid in wrapping paper or fabric. Use tape or glue to hold the material in place. You also could use paint to cover the box.
- 6). Put a line of hot glue along the inside rim of each lid. Put each lid on its accompanying box. Allow the glue to dry completely.
- 7). Put a line of glue on the bottom of the top box. Cover the entire 1-inch rim that you left intact. Place the box on the second box in the tier; make sure to match up the cutouts. Repeat with the other layers, allowing the glue to dry in between.
- 8). Tie a bow or add other decorations to the card box. Feathers, strands of beads and ribbons make lovely decorations.
