- 1). Coach others on the importance of having clarity in vision and purpose. It is important for people to understand that developing a passionate vision and purpose is one of the primary foundations of being an effective leader. Leaders need to ask themselves questions about how they will attain their goals, why other people should help and whether the final goal is clear and easy to understand.
- 2). Show people that values are important. Leadership philosophy is focused heavily on a person's individual values. Some of the main components of leadership include loyalty, respect for other people, patience, empathy, commitment, motivation and honesty. Indicate to people that without these basic values, leadership does not exist.
- 3). Educate people on interpersonal relationships and communication skills. To be a good leader with a strong leadership philosophy, good interpersonal relationships are vital. Teach people how to nurture positive interpersonal relationships through solving problems with others, direct communication, collaboration, honesty, conflict resolution, putting teams together and appreciation of diversity and differences between people.
- 4). Indicate the value of enthusiasm. To motivate and encourage a team, it is necessary to display enthusiasm. Without an enthusiastic leader, a team is not as likely to care as much about success. A positive attitude can be infectious. Teach people that leadership philosophy is all about enthusiasm and caring about the final outcome, which can raise performance levels and overall productivity.
- 5). Talk about empathy. To manage a team, a leader needs to display empathy -- the ability to see situations through the eyes of another human being. Empathetic leadership has no room for selfishness or egotism. Leadership philosophy is all about putting your personal needs on the back burner and moving towards the greater good.
- 6). Discuss setting a good example. Leadership philosophy espouses the importance of having character, dignity and never being a hypocrite. To lead, your words and actions need to match each other at all times. One of the primary characteristics a leader has to adopt is integrity.
- 7). Discuss fairness. Fairness and justice are very important qualities in leadership. A good leader is consistent in his behavior and treatment of all members on his team in the exact same way. If someone does a good job, he praises them. If someone could improve, he makes a note of that and handles it privately.
