- The common side effects are low fever, chills, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, headache, vomiting, tiredness, irritability and stomach pain. These symptoms are not serious and do not need to be reported to your physician, unless they become very bothersome.
- These serious side effects include high fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, severe weakness or an unusual feeling in your arms and legs. They can occur up to four weeks after you received the vaccine. Call your physician immediately if you have any of these side effects.
- Before you take the vaccine you should tell your physician about all medications you have recently taken. This includes all prescription and over-the-counter medications, even vitamins, minerals and any herbal medications.
- Most people believe that if you take a flu vaccine then you cannot get the flu. This is not necessarily true. If there is a flu strain that was not included in the vaccine going around, you can catch it.
- The Flu Mist vaccine is usually given once a year, around October or November.
