- Red foods like strawberries, cherries, beets, red peppers and tomatoes help prevent heart disease, lower risk for cancer and prevent neurological disorders. Lycopene in tomatoes also has proven in a study by the Cancer Research Journal to lower the risk of prostate cancer.
- Orange and yellow foods like carrots, oranges, lemons, sweet potatoes, pumpkins and apricots contain carotenoids and flavonoids that are good sources of vitamin A, and keep immune systems and vision healthy and prevent heart disease and cancer. Sweet potatoes contain cancer-fighting substances quercetin and chlorogenic acid. Oranges contain hesperetin, which slows the development of viruses.
- Green foods like spinach, cabbage, green peppers and broccoli contain lutein, a substance that can maintain healthy vision. Chlorophyll's ability to prevent cancer is also being studied.
- Blue and purple foods like eggplant, plums, prunes and blueberries contain antioxidants that fight free radicals (the byproduct of your body fighting environmental toxins), which prevents cancer and heart disease. Blueberries minimize memory loss and improve coordination. Grapes prevent atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
