How to Visit the South Street Seaport in Manhattan

    • 1). Spend some time at the mall found at the South Street Seaport. More than 100 shops can be found in the area, including stores that sell local merchandise as well as national chain stores such as Bath and Body Works. You could spend an entire day simply shopping at the South Street Seaport and come away with more than enough souvenirs.

    • 2). Take a trip on the Water Taxi. The Water Taxi will give you an entirely different view of New York City. You can also use the Water Taxi to take a tour of New York harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Contact the Water Taxi at (212) 742-1969 for more information as ticket prices vary depending on the day and what it is you would like to see while on your Water Taxi trip.

    • 3). See an exhibit at the Historic Cobblestone District. Unlike some of the outdoor entertainment, these exhibits are open year round. “Bodies: The Exhibition” is an example. This exhibit allows visitors to learn more about human body. Every exhibit is open to the public and all ages are welcome. Discounts are available for senior citizens and children 12 and under.

    • 4). Take your family to the South Street Seaport Museum. Also open year round, the South Street Seaport Museum offers exhibits regarding the history of New York City. Guests can also learn about the history of the Seaport. Discounts for the museum are available for children and senior citizens and children under five-years-old are admitted for free.

    • 5). Enjoy a meal at Harbour Lights. Harbour Lights is known for having an array of seafood and some of the best steaks in lower Manhattan. If that isn't appealing enough, you also get a spectacular view of the Brooklyn Bridge while you're eating your meal at the restaurant.

    • 6). Go for a helicopter sightseeing tour. The downtown heliport is actually a short walk away from the South Street Seaport. The trip is well worth it. The Liberty Helicopters “Big Apple” tour offers views from the sky of some of the most famous landmarks found in New York City. Make sure to call ahead of time, as these tours fill up at least a week in advance.
