- 1). Place a patch of masking tape over the part of the tile you wish to drill through. Masking tape will help the drill find purchase on the tile, and will also help guard against scratching if the drill does move across the tile.
- 2). Pour the cutting oil into a small cup and keep it near your work area. You will be using this oil to lubricate the drill bit as you drill.
- 3). Set your drill to run at between 100 and 200 revolutions per minute. You do not want to drill into porcelain tile at high speeds, as this can over-heat the drill bit and potentially damage the tile.
- 4). Begin drilling into the tile through the masking tape. Do not apply too much pressure to the drill, as doing so will cause damage and overheating.
- 5). Pause every 15 or 20 seconds to dip the drill bit into the cup of cutting oil. This is to lubricate the drill bit to keep it functioning smoothly and to prevent overheating. Wipe the excess oil off the bit with a rag, then continue drilling.
- 6). Continue drilling in this manner until you have gotten all the way through the tile.
