First Person Shooter Games for Wii

    • With its motion-sensor controller and its built-in light gun function, the Nintendo Wii seems to be a natural platform for first-person shooter (FPS) games. Oddly enough, however, there are not many FPS games available, and those that there are usually are remakes or ports from other consoles. Still, for Wii owners looking for a decent FPS to play, there are a few options available.

    "The Conduit"

    • One of the few Wii-exclusive titles, "The Conduit" boasts a control scheme that takes full advantage of the motion-sensor Wiimote and a special graphics engine designed to allow the lower processing power of the Wii to stand up to the high-powered processors of its competitors. While not a groundbreaking game by any means, "The Conduit" has garnered critical praise for its well-paced storyline, its tight control scheme and its retro run-and-gun-style gameplay. Several critics have complained, however, about the short length of the game, as well as the main character's inability to look up past a 45-degree angle, making it difficult to shoot at the many roof-bound enemies.

    "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption"

    • The final game in the "Metroid Prime" trilogy, "Corruption" sticks close to its roots in terms of gameplay and graphics. Another Wii-exclusive game, "Metroid Prime 3" has been designed from the ground up specifically for the Wii's control scheme. Critics praise the game for its tight, intuitive controls and its superb puzzle and level design. Players take on the role of Samus Aran as she and her fellow bounty hunters attempt to "heal" an organic computer that has been infected with a deadly virus. Other virtues hailed by critics include stunning boss fights, beautiful alien landscapes, and some of the best environmentally-based puzzles ever designed.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Reflex Edition"

    • "Modern Warfare" was released on all the "Next-Gen" consoles. On the Wii, "Modern Warfare" underwent some serious renovations compared to its sister iterations on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The control scheme has been revamped to fit with the Wii's motion-sensor controls, and has garnered praise from reviewers who place it just below the Conduit in terms of tightness of control. The graphics--while seriously downgraded from those on the more powerful consoles--are nevertheless impressive on the Wii, and do the job just fine, according to critics. Unfortunately, because the game was designed to use more power than the Wii is able to provide, the framerate of the game is wildly inconsistent, ranging from extremely smooth to slideshow-quality in the more chaotic moments.
