How to Visit Seattle, WA

    • 1). Drive to Seattle by renting a car or using your own vehicle. If you do travel by car, consider making your visit to Seattle a part of a visit to some Pacific States. Have a map, GPS navigation system or a printed version of driving directions from your computer. There is a link for car rentals at the end of this article. You can also fly on a number of airlines to the Seattle/Tacoma airport.

    • 2). Reserve your lodging if you live out of the area. Feel free to explore different types of lodging like resorts, hotels and rustic choices like camping, cabins and bed-and-breakfasts. There are several choices with links listed in this article. You may receive a discount by booking online. Receive a discount by using your travel club card.

    • 3). Visit the Space Needle. Take a tour and eat in the revolving restaurant. You must have a ticket to enjoy this attraction. You can purchase at the door, online or as part of a tour package. Purchase a day and night ticket to see both views of the skyline. There are different prices for different age groups. During the fall and winter months, come for a chef's demonstration or holiday feast. Reservations for the restaurant are recommended. The Space Needle is open 365 days a year for your convenience.     • 4). Consider a trip to the Seattle Art Museum on First Avenue in downtown Seattle. Even if you are not an art fan, you will enjoy this magnificent showcase of African, American and European artists. There are all different types of media housed here, especially sculptures, some which are suspended from the ceiling. You must purchase a ticket. On one day of the week, museum admission is free.     • 5). Stroll along Pike Place Market. Here you will find a unique, open-air marketplace situated along the waterfront. This is a historic district, usually packed with people from all walks of life. There are many events held here including a farmer's market. There is shopping, dining and entertainment but also seafood markets of high quality. This district is also packed with affordable housing.

    • 6). Hop on a boat at Aqua Verde Paddle Club. There are many paddle, house boats and kayaks available to help you cruise along the river. They also have a fabulous restaurant and bar, or you can picnic in the park if the weather permits. If you go on a cloudy day, there are less crowds. Taking a cruise along the river helps you see the city from a different vantage point. Cruise on a weekday and save money.

    • 7). Visit Smith Tower in Seattle. This is great, especially if you do not get a chance to visit the Space Needle. It is less expensive and offers views of mountains from an observation deck 35 stories above ground.

    • 8). View the displays at the Olympic Sculpture Park. This is downtown Seattle's only beach. You can wind your way through the varying metal sculptures and look through the glass at the indoor pavilion. You can also sneak views of major landmarks if the weather allows. Bring a picnic or eat at the cafe. Visit during lunch hours to avoid crowds. You can also get a free tour.

    • 9). Visit Aiki Beach and Park and view the mini replica of the Statue of Liberty. You can take your shoes off and walk in the sand. You will enjoy some of the best water views here. Go during the week or on cooler days when it is less crowded. You get some amazing views of the Seattle skyline.

      Take a ferry to leave Seattle or just to experience a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. There is a schedule and a link to more information found in the Resources section at the bottom of this article. Purchase tickets online or in person. You can also take the Clipper ferry and travel north for the day to go sightseeing.
