A Laxmi Narayan Temple is also known as the Birla Temple. It is a Hindu temple which is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi built in Delhi. The temple is decorated with several shrines, a large garden and some beautiful fountains. The temple is among the favorite tourist spot in Delhi and every year it attracts a large number of people from the far off places, which come India during India Trip. Vir Singh Deo built this temple in 1622, whereas it was renovated in 1793 by Prithvi Singh. This temple is also known as the Birla Temple because of the fact that during the time period 1933-39, it was Birla Family who was responsible for the maintenance and the welfare of this temple.
It is said, that this temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. He was strongly against the caste system and this temple also was opened for the lower caste as well as for the upper caste family, hence he agreed for its inauguration. The Nagara or the Northern style was used for the manufacturing of this temple. The whole temple is decorated with the beautiful images and sculptures engraved on the walls of this temple. The temple faces towards the east direction and is built on the high rock. Although, the main temple compromises of the large statues of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi, there are also several other shrines in the temple which reveal several facts related to their life. The Statues of Lord Hanuman, Lord Buddha, Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva are also being displayed in the temple.
The Laxmi Narayan Temple is located on the Mandir Marg which is towards the west side of Connaught Place in Delhi. You can easily reach there by using the local buses, trains or taxis. The Metro facility is also available in Delhi, so you can reach the RK Puram Metro Station and from that it will hardly take 5 minutes to reach to the Laxmi Narayan Temple. The Laxmi Narayan Temple is the temple of faith, love and worship. The top quality marble along with the Rajasthan Cravings was used to decorate the exterior of the temple. By visiting the Laxmi Narayan Temple, you will be able to see the extravagant artistic work of the architects of that era. However, the marble used earlier is hard to get these days, but even now it looks like a new one.
