Why Should I Take Vitamins?

    Lack of Nutritious Food

    • You should take vitamins because our food supply has become depleted of nutrition. Most food is shipped in from other countries and nutrients are lost during transport. If the food has been sprayed with pesticides or herbicides, it also has toxic elements, and extra vitamins and pure water can help to flush your body of these toxins.

Eating local organic food is more nutritious, but not everyone has access to these high quality foods, and some people are not able to afford the extra cost of organic food. An entire month's supply of a multivitamin is typically only $8 to $20, depending on the brand and how the vitamins were manufactured.

    Time

    • Time is also another reason why you should take a vitamin supplement. Most of us are very busy and even though it would be ideal to eat our 5 to 8 servings of fruits and vegetables, some of us don't have the time to eat all these vegetables in one day. Taking a daily vitamin supplement with a quick healthy meal, is one way you can give your body the extra nourishment you lack because of your busy schedule.

Of course it is always best to get your vitamins from food, but if you don't have enough time on certain days, taking a supplement will help you maintain good health and energy levels.

    Prevent Disease

    • Disease, especially cancer, has become a major problem today. As you age, your body becomes more susceptible to the effects of your environment. Vitamins---especially antioxidants such as vitamin A, E, C, and D---protect your cells from free-radical damage.

    Beauty

    • If you want to look your best and be as healthy as possible, you need to eat a good diet loaded with fruits and vegetables---but you also need to take additional vitamins to nourish your skin, nails, and hair. Certain key vitamins like vitamin E and A help your skin cells to stay younger, and you will look healthier. Excess sugar and other processed foods can strip your body of what it needs, so be sure to avoid them in your diet.

    Energy

    • You should take vitamin supplements so you can feel your best. Vitamins provide your cells with much-needed food that helps your body have more energy. B vitamins, in particular, play an essential role in the nervous system. These key nutrients fight fatigue and stress. To get the best results, you will need to take 50 mg or more of each of the B vitamins in a B-complex formulation.
