- 1). Calculate the value of your damaged property. Your insurance adjuster will likely do this for you, or have tools to assist your calculation.
- 2). Subtract your deductible amount from the total value of the damaged property. For example, if you suffered $3,500 of damage and have a $500 policy deductible, your settlement is now $3,000.
- 3). Compare your adjusted settlement amount minus deductible against your policy limit. If the policy limit is higher than your settlement, you should receive the entire adjusted amount. If the adjusted settlement exceeds your policy limit, you will receive your policy limit and no more.
