How to Tell If You Have Herpes - What You Need to Know

Herpes is an infection that is caused by the herpes simplex virus.
Once a person has caught herpes they will be infected for life as there is no known cure.
So it is important to know how to tell if you have herpes.
Here are some of the things to be aware of and look out for if you think you might have caught herpes.
Often the actual symptoms of herpes take between two and twenty days to develop after coming into contact with someone who is infected.
As the virus is different in every person the first outbreak could be very painful, or it could be mild.
In order to catch herpes you need to have been in contact with someone who is infected.
One of the first signs of herpes are sores on the skin, These normally affect the nose, mouth, anus or vagina although other areas of the body are also susceptible.
So if you notice sores on these areas of the body which fit this description you might have herpes.
Many people experience flu type symptoms during an outbreak of herpes.
You might also feel that your skin is very painful and blisters may even develop.
Many people also have swollen glands and feel pain when urinating.
However these symptoms do vary from person to person and may be worse or less obvious than the symptoms described.
In addition to knowing how to tell if you have herpes it is also a good idea to know what to do during an outbreak.
So make sure that any blisters are kept clean and covered if possible.
Avoid wearing clothing that will irritate the skin and try not to cover the skin with creams.
It is also wise to speak to a health professional who will be able to advise you further.
