RAF (Royal Air Force) is one of the oldest air force in the world. It has a large number of personnel across different disciplines. This air force has been adoration to many individuals and organs across the world. As a result, it has attracted personnel from the whole of European region and the world as a whole. There are various careers within RAF. RAF officers have various duties in the welfare, career development and discipline of the air force which include the airmen and airwomen.
Basically, Royal Air Force is composed of two divisions. It is composed of the operational force; otherwise referred to as the strike force and the training and personnel command. The personnel and training category has the responsibility of recruiting, training and managing the wellbeing of the force.
The RAF offers its officers a wide range of carrier options to choose from. There are over 20 areas of specializations each with its duties and responsibilities. The areas include air operations, medical and nursing services, royal marine, support services, engineering and logistics, operations services among others. If you choose for example to go into air operations, you can be a pilot or even a weapons system officer whose duties include carrying out search and rescue missions, flying sorties and carrying out reconnaissance.
As for the operations support category, there are personnel such as flight operations and air traffic controllers. Their responsibilities include coordinating the refueling of flights, providing some board information and mapping of digital terrains when preparing various mission for the force. You may want to join the engineering and logistics section and work as an aircraft and communications engineer. Their duties are to commission new crafts, to service such crafts and management of other personnel and related issues.
For you to join the RAF, one you must be at least 17 years and 6months of age. You must also be either a UK citizen, republic of Ireland or common wealth country citizen. You can also be allowed to join if you have dual citizenship with Britain and another country. You will be given tests in GCSE (A-C), English and Mathematics inclusive and pass mark is at least 5 points. You will also require some two 'A' levels or qualifications with similar value of education. On the other hand, jobs like paramedics, clinical officers or medics will require some additional professional qualifications such as degrees. All this is tested with fitness and other practical drills and initiatives.
