Steps And Procedures For Laying Turf

When you are planning to lay a new turf for your garden, you need prioritize some tasks and make sure that each task is done in the right manner. There are many people who just want to lay their garden turf with minimal effort. So, they just buy the turf and lay it on the ground. Although this is the simplest way of laying turf, it is not the right method.

There are some recommended steps that you need to follow if you want a perfect garden lawn. The steps are soil preparation, leveling, soil improvement, laying, watering, compacting, top dressing, adding fertilizer, and finally mowing. When you follow these procedures, you will surely get a beautiful lawn in just a matter of a few weeks.

Before you get rid of your old lawn, you may have to spray Roundup (Glyphosate). Then, you will have to wait for at least two weeks for the chemical to take effect. After two weeks, you will not have problem in taking out the old lawn. The next task is to prepare the soil so that your grass grows in a healthy manner. Testing of the soil for the soil type and the soil pH is something that you will have to do on your own. If you are not in a position to do the testing of the soil, you can hire an external service to do it for you. There are many soil testing kits in the market that will surely be of good help to begin with. It is recommended that you should apply at least 100mm of lawn mix soil or black topsoil to the area. This will allow deeper penetration of air, moisture and even roots.

Once the soil is ready, don't make the mistake of directly laying the turf there is still lots of work to be done on the soil. The next step is to level the soil, but even before that you will have to clean the area and remove all leaves, twigs, roots, rocks, and weeds. After the cleaning and leveling, you will have to order the garden turf. There are some very good turf London services that will sell and deliver the turf at your doorstep. Once the turf is delivered, you will have to lay it immediately never delay the laying once the turf is delivered. You should lay the turf rolls in a stretcher board pattern as you would do on brickpaving. You should butt the joints tightly, but also make sure that you don't overlap the edges.

If you are unable to prevent the overlapping, then you can use a steak knife to cut the turf at the required edges. You will have to be very patient with the cutting of the turf as there are chances that you may over cut them. It goes without saying that you need to first calculate the area that needs to be cut and then start with the cutting process. There are many people who can do turf laying singlehandedly, but for those who cant, there are turf laying services across the UK.
