- 1). Put the PSP face down on a clean cloth and remove the battery. Remove the screws from inside where the battery was located from the back of the PSP. Put the screws aside for later.
- 2). Separate the bottom of the faceplate from the PSP. Put the flat-edged screwdriver under the lip of the button bar on the left side. Disconnect the button bar from the metal LCD housing. Unplug the button bar flex cable by lifting up the tab and sliding out the cable.
- 3). Unlock the left side of the LCD screen from the metal housing by inserting the flat edged screwdriver between the LCD housing and the LCD mounting bracket. Pop out the tabs so that the LCD screen can come out. Remove the cables clamped to the LCD screen.
- 4). Remove the screws from the LCD brace. Put the screws aside. Pry the brace out from between the D-Pad and the housing by first freeing the small tabs holding the two together. Press the latch and open the UMD door. Remove the brace from the PSP to expose the circuit board.
- 5). Bypass the backlighting fuse which is labeled FD by soldering a small piece of wire to the two pads on the motherboard around the fuse. Replace the brace and put the screws back in. Replace the cables to the LCD screen and replace the LCD mounting bracket and the LCD screen to their original positions in the PSP console. Replace the button bar to its original position and replace the faceplate. Put the screws back in to the PSP to hold the console together. Replace the battery.
