- The Occupational Health & Safety Administration, under the U.S. Department of Labor, requires an annual refresher course for individuals who received the initial 40-hour HAZMAT training program.
- If you work in a place where you require annual training, your employer will usually provide you with the information you need to receive the training. If not, look online. OSHA offers information about how to receive online training. In addition, you can use online HAZMAT schools that provide you with the training you need.
- If an individual does not receive the refresher training within one year of the initial training or previous refresher training, OSHA says the subsequent training requirement is up to the discretion of the employer. If the employee is extremely familiar with the process, refresher training may suffice. If not, taking the initial HAZMAT training again is recommended.
