- 1). Place a drop cloth beneath your work area. Chemicals like polyurethane and teak oil will damage unprotected surfaces like floors and carpets.
- 2). Sand the entire surface of the teak wood with 400-grit sandpaper until you reach the raw, golden-colored wood. Sand with the grain.
- 3). Apply a coat of teak oil with a clean brush to the entire surface of the teak. This will restore the warm, golden color of the wood. Apply as many coats as necessary, allowing the wood to dry in between coats, until the wood stops absorbing it and is fully moisturized.
- 4). Buff the teak with a clean cloth to maximize the wood's luster.
- 5). Apply a thin layer of polyurethane clear coat to the teak with a clean brush. This will act as a sealant and protect the surface of the wood.
