Arthritis - A Painful Joint Disorder

If you feel excruciating pain in your joints particularly in your knees, neck, arms, feet, back and hip, most probably you are suffering from arthritis.
It is defined as the inflammation in the joint area where two different bones meet.
It can affect all ages and gender but elder people are more susceptible to this disorder, as well as those people who are always exposed in vigorous activities and are overweight.
There are over 100 types of arthritis that have been identified but the most common is the osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Arthritis is most commonly caused by previous injury, hereditary factors, bacterial and viral infections, metabolic abnormalities, immune system malfunction.
Signs and Symptoms The most common symptoms of arthritis are swelling, pain and joint inflexibility.
Other signs should watch for are: - Weight loss - Low quality sleep - Fever - Inability to use joints properly - Tiredness - Muscle ache and weakness - Fatigue Advance case of arthritis may cause disability, immobility, swelling of the glands and physical deformities.
Primary Forms of Arthritis There are seven primary forms of arthritis and these are as follows: - Ostheoarthritis - affects both the small and large joints in the body and is usually obtain from the every day wear and tear of the joints.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis - is a severe deformity cause by the attack of the body's own immune system.
It affects the cartilage and lining of the joints in the wrists, elbows, fingers and knees.
- Septic Arthritis- is infectious invasion in the joint and it can completely damage the joint within several days.
- Gout- on the other hand, is the result of uric acid crystals forming in the joints.
It can cause swelling and can be crippling.
- Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis- it's the arthritis that is common in children, thus its name.
It affects the joints of a child and can result to limping, poor appetite and tiredness.
- Still's Disease- is an arthritis that usually affects 16 to 35 years olds.
It may cause liquid accumulation in the lungs, gland swelling and severe exhaustion.
- Ankylosing Spondylitis- is a chronic form of arthritis.
It can affect the spine or pelvis, or combination of the two.
Treatment Treatment for arthritis depends on its form; however the most common treatment is physical therapy, bracing, lifestyle adjustments, medications and supplements.
Medications and supplements are given to help ease the pain and inflammation and this works well together with exercise and proper nutrition.
Exercises for arthritis are designed to strengthen the joint and muscle and to avoid further damage and too much strain that can worsen the pain and swelling.
Orthopedic bracing and joint replacement surgery are essential for advance case of arthritis, especially when the joints are totally damage or eroded.
Physical therapy, on the other hand, helps in loosening stiff joints and muscle and minimize immobility and muscle weakness.
Prevention To be able to prevent arthritis doctors recommend patients to avoid strenuous activities and unhealthy lifestyle.
Overweight people are also advice to lose some weight, eat healthy foods and engage in to daily exercise.
