- 1). Start your saved campaign or begin a new game. Regardless of what you choose, finding unoccupied Ghosts or commandeering them is mostly about in-game environments. The developers intentionally left some craft in the open for Master Chiefs to steal; others are on patrol or are engaging your teammates in a firefight.
- 2). Look for open terrain. A fine example would be in the first installment of the game during the mountain assault sequence---you'll know it once you come across the flat icy plains once you've made it through the Covenant's mountain base. As the terrain opens up, a few Ghosts are left unchecked on a small embankment, just ripe for a test drive.
- 3). Go up the tunnel that leads from the bottom area to the upper level where your troops are battling Covenant forces (and losing.) If you have a Ghost, you can fly up and get another if yours is damaged, but there a few flying around this level attacking the opposition; zero in with your sniper rifle and take a head shot, which will send the Ghosts down to ground level where you can take them over.
- 4). Check the deserted wastelands of New Mombasa once you're out of the city in Halo 2. Like subsequent games, this type of terrain is more open and an area where Ghosts can be more simply operated, thus they are more readily available for use.
