Once you are satisfied with the reputation of the breeder, pay a second visit and spend some time playing with the dogs there.

Do not get offended if the breeder wants to know how you are going to take care of your pet.
Good breeders are always careful about selling puppies to owner whom they think will take care of their pets in a responsible manner.
The breeder should provide you with all health related information including the vaccination record and veterinarian's reports.
For a purebred puppy you should receive a certificate of registration.
Another way of bringing home a dog is to just adopt it from an animal rescue group or an animal shelter.
Whether you buy a dog or adopt it, do your research so that you come home with a healthy puppy.
